WE HAVE FINISHED EMERGENCY WOOHOO!!
Rich suddenly magically developped a really bad case of "diarrhoea" so was unfortunately unable to make it to his last night shift ... what a huge shame. I on the other hand was a good girl and went in for a 7-2, wish I hadn't bothered as it was pretty awful (never seen a heart failure patient drop off the end so quickly ... que some BPAP and running round and a quick exit to ICU for her). But it is all done, think we have both learned lots and had some really fantastic shifts, which naturally come with some rubbish ones too. Now onto new things and hopefully some normal hours ...
Last night we all went for dinner to Yellow Belly, which does amazing handmade burgers - mine had brie, carmelised onions, pulled pork ribs and truffle aioli ... yummy. Then we went onto George St to get screeched in ... which was a strange process that involved being shouted at by a big fat sweaty Canadian wearing galoshes and a trench coat, who noone could understand. He kept clapping and stamping, and attempting to sing at us faster and faster, in between swigging vast quantities of rum .. we all had serious difficulties understanding a single thing he actually said... we then had to repeat some wacky Newfie phrase - "Deed I am, me old cock, and long may your big jib draw", kiss a frozen cod and down a shot of (jamaican) screech rum. The ceremony was completed with a nice certificate and so we are all now officially Honorary Newfoundlanders!!
This was after being accosted by the campest toronto guy ever, who proceeded to talk to us for a good half hour and exclaim how everything we said was "awwwwwwesooooooooome" covering about 3 octaves ... we were almost wetting ourselves laughing but he didnt seem to notice. Anyway, he somehow wangled our emails and has invited us out to dinner in toronto ... hehehehe.
Today we visited the botanical gardens (had to resort to crutches as hip very bad currently), which is nice, but not particularly botanical, more just some gardens and a forest. Lol, but pretty and nice to be outdoors in the sunshine before the "hurricaine" hits us on monday. Then the excitement of the day was the fluvarium, which is a glassed off section of a natural river, so you can see the fishes .... couldn't quite contain ourselves it was sooo thrilling... !
Tomorrow we are doing the irish loop around the avalon peninsula, so that should be good. fingers crossed for some whales ...
xxx
